Broes was founded in the autumn of 2009, from the creative minds of Anouk Sanczuk and Florian De Schepper.

Own compositions with groovy rhythms and room for improvisations quickly became their trademark. Shortly after their foundation, the quintet was awarded several prizes and also received a lot of acclaim abroad. In 2012, Elke De Meesterjoined them on chromatic accordion.

Their first successful album "Route du soleil" was released in 2015. In 2022, "Botanist" followed, an album that received a lot of praise. "Belgica" is added to their discography in January 2025, followed immediately by lots of airplay on Belgian National radiostations (Radio 1, Klara). All of their albums consist of 100% of their own work.

The current line-up was supplemented in 2019 with Gielis Cautaers on percussion and Zjef Van Steenbergen on bass. All are professional musicians, and each in turn serves as composer for Broes. Yet their sound always remains recognizable, due to their nimble virtuosity, varied arrangements and impressive interplay.

Their rock-solid live reputation earned Broes the title of "Best Live Band" in 2023, awarded at the Flanders Folk Awardshow in the AB in Brussels.

Broes can already present an impressive list of performances: they have already performed on stage at almost all major folk festivals in Belgium (including Gooikoorts, Dranouter, Na fir bolg, Labadoux, Boombalfestival), but they have also made a splash abroad (including at folk and jazz festivals in Belarus, China, Hong Kong, Portugal, Greece, the Netherlands, Italy, France, Romania, etc.).
